At the end of the month comes the first Tabletop Gaming Live event at Alexandra’s Palace in London and in October is the big one – Spiel 2018 at Essen. With that in mind, there’s likely not too many big titles coming this month, with the wave of hot stuff coming through October and into November. That said, there is still some great titles coming after GenCon in the States, so let’s see what Meeples’ Corner have coming in this month.

Gunkimono

Designer: Jeffrey D Allers
Publisher: Renegade Game Studios

September looks to be a month of Expansions with Sam’s choice and Paper Tails, all on my radar. I have gone with a reprinted game that has got a makeover, it first appeared with a farming theme and a front cover that any board-gamer would pass over as quickly as being offered a bowl of salad for lunch. Heartland was released many years ago and was in short suppy, but the reviews it did get it gave it high praise. Renegade Games got their grubby hands on the license and changed it to be set in feudal Japan and also changed nothing else. They seemed to have kept the mechanics of the original and the new setting works better for the eye. It’s a simple tile-laying game and you have to make hard decisions to either take points or honor it also said to be very, very mean… seems to be a game that is right up my street and will I like very much.

Pre-order for £28.50 at Meeples’ Corner.

Holding On: The Troubled Life of Billy Kerr

Designer: Michael Fox and Rory O’Connor
Publisher: Hub Games

I managed to get to play a demo of the first game of this at the UK games expo. I was very impressed. Hub Games have developed a reputation for creative story telling games, which despite my initial reservations, are actually quite good, innovative and original. Holding On further explores Hub Games’ storytelling pedigree with the inclusion of the more euro mechanic: worker allocation. I was hooked on this cooperative game from the first game and I’m keen to get my hands on a copy to explore the full 10 game campaign.

Pre-order for £28.50 from Meeples’ Corner.
